Gold Coast Suns Upset Sydney Swans with a Great Performance

An incredible turn of events at SCG saw Gold Coast upset Sydney Swans for the first time in their history. Ever since joining the AFL in 2011, the Gold Coast has never overcome the Sydney Swans. With the latter’s recent run of form, the Gold Coast were underdogs in this encounter.

Despite Sydney Swans having a smaller depth of quality players in their squad due to many injuries they often win their matches. Their performance against Melbourne saw youngsters Allir Allir and Ben Ronke rising to the occasion to claim the victory. But the encounter against Gold Coast proved to be otherwise as the Swans were on the back foot for a longer period.swans vs gold coast

Gold Coast Defied the Odds

Gold Coast experienced a winless streak of 11 games but they were buoyed to defy the odds against their arch-rivals. Swans had the worst performance of the season after being led 20-points by three quarter. Prolific displays by Aaron Young and Alex Sexton sent the fans of the Swans into the doldrums.

The pair of Young and Sexton produced an incredible performance for the underdogs (Gold Coast).  They managed to bag seven goals between them, alongside Buddy Franklin managing 0.3 for Gold Coast.

The encounter was enthralling in the first quarter with Gold Coast missing 6 shots until Touk Miller sent home their first goal in the 23rd minute.

Sydney Swans were in shambles and Gold Coast utilised the opportunity to grab a six-point lead and they kept the momentum. The latter blew away their chances of securing the top four after a shocking defeat against the Gold Coast Suns. The Swans will now drop to sixth if Port Adelaide and Melbourne manage to win their games
