Cancelled movies are those movies that Hollywood executives decide to scrap at the last moment because they don’t think they’ll make enough money from them. Some of these cancelled movies have gone on to become classics while some others have ended up as cult favourites. Here are some cancelled films that had great success post-cancellation.

Cancelled Productions

The following is a list of television shows and motion pictures that were either originally broadcast, or scheduled for release which ultimately never made their debut, or were otherwise cancelled shortly after their release;

The Final Countdown (1998)

It was meant to be a big-budget sequel to Back To The Future but it only cost $100 million – making it one of the biggest flops in cinema history.

Supernova (2000)

After the failure of this project, Tom Cruise went ahead with his Mission: Impossible III project instead. He didn’t waste any time though – he began filming just nine months later.

The Matrix Reloaded (2003)

Despite being a huge hit when released overseas. Warner Bros thought that there wasn’t enough action in the US so they decided not to release it theatrically. They also considered releasing it twice, but then audiences got bored of it.

The Fast and the Furious (2001)

When Universal put out plans to make more than 100 spinoffs based on their popular characters. No one asked for what would’ve been a pretty obvious choice: a racing franchise starring cars.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom Of the Crystal Skull (2008)

This is another film that many people assumed would never get made. Despite having several big names like Harrison Ford, Sean Connery and Daniel Day-Lewis. it still struggled to find an audience, finally sinking down to number six behind four other films that have a lot less going for them.

Conclusion

These films are a testament to how even something as simple as a title can ruin it for you. These were all hugely successful films that would’ve brought real money into the studios’ pockets if they’d simply stuck around…but they were doomed shortly after reaching our screens.
