Aussie Ref Appointed For Super Rugby Final

Straya’s Angus Gardner has been appointed the top official for the August 4 Super Rugby Final. The governing board SANZAAR mentioned that the appointment was in line with match official selection used throughout the tournament.

This is will be Gardner‘s first Super Rugby final in charge. The 33-year-old  started his referring career in 2012 when he officiated the Reds V Rebels in Brisbane.  He is now recognised as one of the best and highly-experienced referees in the game.  He has refereed more than 60 Super Rugby games. This year alone he has managed to referee 13 matches.

Angus Gardner’s Career

Gardner found a breakthrough in his career at the senior level in 2016. During the 2017 period, he referred in all the main Test match windows. These include appointments in the Six Nations and the Rugby Championship.

angus gardnerHe has managed to referee 13 matches and he was also appointed to referee two Rugby Test matches this year. (Argentina v South Africa and South Africa v New Zealand). The man has also taken part in the Super Rugby final as an assistant referee and television match official.

Despite Aussie being knocked out of the Super Rugby tournament at least Angus Gardner’s presence gives us something to smile about.

Elsewhere, this Saturday’s semi-finals, the New Zealand official will referee the match between Lions and Waratahs in Johannesburg. South Africa’s Jaco Peyper will be in control of the match between the Crusaders and Hurricanes in Christchurch.
