Melbourne City FC Loses By 6 Goals to La Liga Club

Melbourne city ended their Indian tour with a disappointing 6-0 defeat to LaLiga side Ginora on Friday night. Melbourne City was outshined by their Spanish counterparts in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Ginora found the back of the net three times during the first half of the match. The Melbourne squad returned to Straya soon after the match to prepare for the August 7 FFA Cup match against Brisbane Roar FC at Dolphin Stadium.

City coach, Warren Joyce made four shocking changes to his first eleven that played against Kerala Blasters. The defensive pair of Bart Schenkeveld and Osama Malik was not in sync which might have resulted in the landslide of goals.

City kick-started the encounter with a good run of form as they were playing counter-attacking the football. This was a strategic way to catch their counterparts off guard. A brilliant passing combination between Michael O’Halloran and Riley Mcgree resulted in the first chance of the day. This was in the first five minutes.

Ginora responded quickly to the scare from Melbourne. They upped their game scoring the opener in the 11th minute. Cristian Portuguese’s speed got the better of Delbridge as he shot home a wonderful strike past Galekovic.

The Spaniards began an all out attack which saw them keeping on bombarding. By the end of the 25th-minute, they had their third goal. City created chances before the end of the first half. They almost pulled one back when Fornaroli bulldozed his way into the Ginora defence but the attack was halted.

In the second half, Ginora FC came with increased tempo which caught City off guard. A set piece resulting from the pressure was buried at the back of the net to claim the fourth goal.

Juan Pedro Ramirez sealed off the encounter when he nodding home the Spaniard’s 5th goal of the night. It all became a nightmare after Pedro Porro nodded home at close range to get the 6th goal for Ginora in added time.
