Say No to Gender-Based Violence in Australia

This November it’s the month to go on the forefront and say no to gender-based violence. Most of the time when the issue of gender-based violence is mentioned people think of the physical abuse. But it is more than that as it also includes sexual abuse and sexual harassment.

Sex trafficking and stalking are all part and parcel of gender-based violence. And the fact that not a specific gender was mentioned that means that anyone can be through this, whether you are male or female.

Since this month we are going to be protesting against gender-based violence we want to give you an insight into what exactly it is.picture written say no to gender-based violence

Forms of gender-based violence

Physical violence; this is an act that causes physical harm. This will occur as a result of any unlawful force that is exerted on a person who is physical. No has the right to just lay a hand on someone if they do not want.

Sexual violence; any sexual activity that is performed on an individual without their consent is unlawful. Whether you were drugged or of full knowledge of what is happening. As long as you did not agree to that which the other person is imposing on you sexually then yes we call it sexual violence.

Psychological violence; in my own opinion this is the worst abuse. One can only maintain sanity when the brain is healthy. But the thing with this type of violence is the fact that at times one may not notice that you are in danger. Psychological violence includes verbal insults, harassment, defamation and a whole load of other things. The reason why I said that this is one of the most vital ones is that at times people do not have the knowledge or are not aware that this is bad and can damage self-esteem and mindset for life.
