Damon Wayans Is Quitting ‘Lethal Weapon’

Damon Wayans says he is done with Lethal Weapon. Wayans announced that he’ll be quitting Fox’s action drama after production on the third season. In an interview with Electronic Urban Report, the actor said the season kicked off on the 25th of September. Production on the season will wrap up in December.

Wayans cited his age, his diabetic condition and long working hours as his reasons for leaving Warner Bros. In the interview, Wayans emphasized that he was done with the show and too old to be doing it.

The actor/comedian said that he was going to return to the stage to try and find his smile again. After he had been asked what he’ll be doing next after Lethal Weapon. Wayans said he had to look at himself in the eye and ask who he was.

“It can’t all be about word,” the actor said.

He talked about his big, loving family and how he hasn’t been able to see them. He missed all the family gatherings, his grandkids, the recitals and the graduations.

“It’s not worth it. There’s a better way to live life,” he added.

Lethal Weapon’s Problems

His announcement came after a rocky few months for the TV series. And Fox renewed Lethal Weapon for a 13-episode 3rd season earlier this year. Former co-lead Clayne Crawford was fired in May. This is after being reprimanded numerous times for his on-set behaviour. In July, Seann William Scott joined the series as Crawford’s replacement, playing Murtaugh’s new partner, Wesley Cole.

Lethal Weapon is a TV remake of the buddy cop movie franchise featuring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. The series follows a pair of mismatched cops, Roger Murtaugh and Wesley Cole. Roger Murtaugh is an ageing detective with a family and Wesley Cole is a former CIA operative. Cole navigates a new partnership with Murtaugh as he adjusts to life in Los Angeles.
