And, the fun run poker session that Damon’s character goes through to help rescue Norton is fantastic. It is a must, with a guest appearance by Johnny Chan and some great lines.

Maverick

This movie will not train you how to play this game. But,  it is a fantastic movie that reflects the old-west image of back-alley, cards, and cowboys. Mel Gibson’s Maverick travels to the greatest poker tournament of the day. Then, a riverboat five-card draw winner-take-all contest, with the original Maverick, Jodie Foster, and James Garner.

The Cincinnati Kid

A poker golden oldie best known for the concluding climactic hand between Steve McQueen’s “The Kid” and Edward Robinson’s Lancey Howard. The movie depicts the youthful card player as he travels across New Orleans. This is in his quest to become the greatest poker player of all time. Later, it finally leads him to Lancey Howard, the existing titleholder. This is a terrific poker movie with a good cast that includes Ann-Margret, Rip Torn, and Karl Malden.

Honeymoon in Vegas

It is once again set into motion by people who cheat at poker. For example, when Nicolas Cage’s straight flush is halted by James Caan’s higher straight flush. So, it may have seemed likely that Cage was cheating here. But, thanks to his character not being all that smart, we would have missed out on his crazy antics in Hawaii and Las Vegas.
