Types of headaches differ from person to person depending on the cause. Punters all over the world suffer from different types of headaches every year. However, there are some  headaches that are common. These types of headaches vary in different ways. These include intensity, location, frequency and cause.

Types of Headaches: Primary Headaches

A headache that is referred to as primary is when the headache is solely the main problem. That means it is not caused by an underlying condition or a symptom of something. Primary headaches are not dangerous but you may not be able to function properly during the attack.

There are different types of primary headaches and these include the following:

  • Migraine headache
  • Tension headache
  • Hypnic headache
  • Cluster headache

Secondary Headaches are Another Common  Headache

A secondary headache is triggered by an underlying condition. These conditions affect pain sensitive areas around the neck and head. These of headaches are rare but are dangerous compared to primary. In most cases, these headaches are a warning sign of something serious.

Common conditions that may trigger secondary headaches are some of the following:

  • Brain tumors
  • Aneurysm
  • Meningitis, a bacterial or viral infection causing inflammation of the brain
  • Neck or brain injury

The Common Types of Headaches

Besides the major types of headaches which are the primary and secondary headaches. There are four types of headaches that are very common.

Migraine

You will experience pain in the face or neck when suffering from this headache. Other symptoms may include sensitivity to light, sound, nausea and distorted vision. This type of headache usually lasts between 4 to 72 hours.

Tension

When one is suffering from a tension headache, they may feel a dull pain on any side of the head and pressure around the forehead. This type of headache lasts between 30mins to several hours and falls under primary headaches.

Punters must be aware of some of these headaches and know when to seek help.
