National Flag Day

We have surely started off the month on a good note. We celebrate the day that the Australian flag was first flown. 3 September marks the day that Prime Minister Edmund Barton broadcast the frontrunners of the approved 1901 Federal Flag Design Competition.

Flags seem to be less important nowadays but they are not. They represent what the country stands for, what it believes in. In short, it does the talking for a nation. Even in terms of communicating where the country went through and the historical background.

The flag was initially called the Commonwealth Blue Ensign. It was flown for the first time at the Exhibition building in Melbourne on September 3, 1901.

Union Jack; the upper corner of the flag we find the United Kingdom flag that is better known as the Union Jack. That is a reminder that we were a British colony for quite a while. But that doesn’t mean we became enemies, we still maintained good relations.

7 Point Star; there are stars on the flag but the biggest one must be the one with the greatest meaning right? Well, that is correct as the seven corners on the star represent the 7 important states, and this is how they chose to honour them.

Background Colour; just like in other countries the colour blue represents justice. This is one of the most important things in a country?
