How to Deal with Snow

Queensland just received its first snow in years. This came as a shocker for most Australians and many just didn’t know what to do. However, there are many things that you can do to handle snow or ice. Below, we list the few things that you can do.

Protect your windshield

Always make sure that you put an old bed sheet over your windshield, spreading it across the whole of your windshield. You can then hold the sheet in place using the wipers and then close the sheet’s ends in the doors of the car. When you finally want to use the car, you simply just remove the sheet, thereby removing the ice.

Make Use of Alcohol

Instead of using a de-icer, you can simply use alcohol. It’s cheaper! All you will need to do is spray some rubbing alcohol on the icy surfaces. This is a very quick way of getting rid of the ice.

Make a Mixture

We recommend that you mix alcohol with water and some dishwashing soap. All you need to do is mix the water and alcohol 50-50, and then add just a few drops of dishwashing soap. This is a better mixture than the alcohol one that we mentioned above.

Calcium Chloride and Rock Salt is a great mixture

This mixture is great for those ice sidewalks. Calcium chloride is best for clearing ice as it emits heat while melting the ice.

Yes, Sand is Great Too!

Sand works perfectly for driveways. This option is much cheaper when you have a large driveway. Excitingly, it has the same effect as the calcium chloride and rock salt solution. In the end, they both improve the traction of your car. Make sure that before you put the sand, you clear off the snow using a shovel. This is to just make sure that you are not putting sand on top of the snow. What you really want is for the sand to cover the hard layer of the driveway.
