In most cases, pink eye is a condition you can treat at home with over the counter medicines and probably things you already have at home. This annoying pink eye can be safely and effectively treated at home.

The Four Different Types of Pink Eye

The pink eye is also known as Conjunctivitis is simply inflammation and in some cases infection of the clear membrane which covers the eye white known as the conjunctiva. This then causes your eyes to be itchy, red and at the same time irritated.

Discharge from the eye can also be experienced depending on the type of pink eye. Proper and safe treatment of this condition has to be done after determining what type of eye it is. According to Mayo Clinic the main 4 types of pink eye are:

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis
  • Viral conjunctivitis
  • Allergic eye
  • Irrelative conjunctivitis

Tips for Treating Pink Eye At Home

Avoid the cause– The important thing to do first is to avoid the cause. That is it is chlorine from pools you should stay away from pools. If it’s seasonal allergies you will have to keep your windows closed.

Stop wearing contacts and makeup for a few days– It is recommended not to wear contacts by doctors until the condition goes away. The same goes for those who use makeup, they should avoid putting eyeliner or fake eyelashes as well as mascara during an eye infection.

Apply eye compress– You can do with cold or warm compress depending on the type of affected eye you have. Cold compress works best for easing irritation and itchy while warm compress is for bacterial conjunctivitis.

These tips can be useful however if your eye is severe you will need to make a trip to your doctor.
