Running tops the list of the oldest sports in history. Analysts say that the main reason is that it did not need a particular tool. Of course, people later began to look at the art of running bouncing a ball, or kicking a ball around. But the original art of running dates back to the Upper Palaeolithic era about 15 300 years ago. This is because there is proof from a painting in the Lascaux caves in France. Whereas it actually dates from way back before there were any paintings.

The Art of Wrestling

Proof of the first years of wrestling is also in the Upper Palaeolithic era 15300 years ago. This was the slave trade era and most of the wrestlers were slaves. For instance, in ancient Greece the strongest Jewish slaves were wrestlers. They were a form of entertainment for their Greek capturers.  This means that wrestling actually dates way back than 15300 years ago.

Gymnastics

Before they were a sport, gymnastics were a training method for soldiers. This was in the ancient Greek era in 500 BC. However, it later became popular in the Greek Hellenistic era from 323 BC to 31BC. Later, it was put into the Olympics but when they were banned it lost its popularity. They came back in the 18th and 19th century as a form of exercise.
