Microsoft Delivers Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Microsoft will soon begin delivering the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. This is the official release of Windows 10 version 1809. If you don’t upgrade now, the update will arrive via Windows Update in the next few months. And that is how we choose to start the new month.

However, the upgrade won’t occur right away. Windows 10 runs on more than 700,000,000 monthly active devices. Based on historical trends, it takes several months for the update to reach the full installed base. For example, the April 2018 Update took about 6 weeks to reach 250,000,000 Windows 10 devices.

How to Install Windows 10 October 2018 Update

If you don’t prefer waiting for the Windows Update, you can update to the new version manually. There are two ways you can do this:

Method 1

  • go to Settings
  • Update & Security
  • Windows Update
  • click Check For Updates

The upgrade should download and install automatically if your system is on Microsoft’s list of devices eligible for this build.

Method 2

  • Go to the official Download Windows 10 page
  • Look for the “Windows 10 October 2018 Update now available” message. You will find this at the top of that page
  • Click Update Now to download and run the Update Assistant. This starts the download and installation process immediately

Or

  • Click Download Tool Now. This runs the latest release of the Media Creation Tool
  • download an ISO file with the latest version or create bootable media
  • run Setup from that file

Use this option if you plan to update 2 or more PCs.

DEFERRING THE OCTOBER 2018 UPDATE

You can defer the update if you’re running a business edition of Windows 10. There are no update management tools for Windows 10 Home.
