The imposter syndrome is something that almost everybody suffers from. In fact, statistics show that 70% of the world’s population have at one point suffered from the imposter syndrome. While the very same statistics show that at least 90% of the youth today are still suffering it. However, the irony is that not that many people have heard of it and those who suffer from it do not even know that they suffer from it.

The imposter syndrome is when you feel like you are not competent as people think that you are. It’s a condition where you always think that you are less than what you are. Sounds familiar? We thought as much, while the name may be baffling, the imposter syndromes basically when you think that you are not enough.

Characteristics of The The Imposter Syndrome

  • Self-doubt
  • Being unable to realistically judge your own skill and competence
  • Looking at your success and giving credit to external factors
  • Looking down at your performance
  • Fear of not living up to expectations
  • Overachieving
  • Doing things that will sabotage your own success
  • Setting hard goals to reach and feeling disappointed when you don’t reach them

Are You A Suffering In Silence?

As we mentioned earlier the imposter is something that a lot of people suffer from, and the worst part is that they have no idea that they suffer from it. As a result, many of them suffer in silence. Some people hide behind other things to justify the fact deep down inside they suffer from the imposter syndrome.  To shed a little light on the matter, you suffer from the imposter syndrome if:

  1. You are a perfectionist
  2. You are a superhero
  3. You an expert at what you do
  4. You are a natural genius
  5. You are a soloist
